The county is named for Thomas Nelson, Jr., a signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, who served as Governor of Virginia in 1781. An earlier Virginia county, also named in his honor, became part of Kentucky when it separated from Virginia in 1792.

Nelson County is in the Central Virginia region midway between Charlottesville and Lynchburg and is bounded by the James River on east and the Blue Ridge Mountains north and west. Campbell County, settled in 1736 and incorporated in 1781, is located in Virginia’s south central Piedmont region in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The area is rich in both natural beauty and history.

Tobacco was the basis for the County’s early economic system.  Because of its location on the Staunton River, Brookneal served as a major tobacco market for many years. In addition to tobacco and other agricultural products, Campbell County has also been supported by manufacturing since its earliest days.  Oxford Iron Works (Oxford Furnace) was in operation even prior to the Revolutionary War.  The last remaining furnace, shut down in 1875, still stands as a testimony to the County’s early manufacturing operation.

The family friendly farm also includes numerous small animals, wagon rides, a tennis court, and an indoor pool that is available for events year round.

With it being so close to 3 cities it is perfect for building on or keeping as an investment.  This rural community has that good ol’ home town feeling. There are many lakes nearby for an assortment of outdoor activities, and the James River is only ten minutes away!

Buckingham County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,146. Its county seat is Buckingham.

Buckingham County, lying south of the James River at the geographic center of the state, was established on May 1, 1761 from the southeastern portion of Albemarle County. The origin of the county name probably comes from the Duke of Buckingham (Buckinghamshire, England). Some sources say that the county was named for Archibald Cary’s estate “Buckingham” which was located on Willis Creek. This is the only Buckingham County in the United States.

The County is home to families that can trace their ancestry back to the very early beginnings of Virginia History. Many families still live on tracts of land that were given to their families as land grants. These land grants were originally given to French Huguenots who first settled the south western part of the county in the early 1700s.

James River State Park has more than 1,500 acres of rolling farm meadows and three miles of river frontage. Park facilities include cabins and lodges, primitive and water and electric campsites, primitive and water and electric horse campsites, and group camping. Thirteen primitive campsites are by the river and offer opportunities to canoe-in camp. There are 15 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. There’s also a wheelchair accessible trail around Green Hill Pond. Three fishing ponds and boating access to 12 miles of the James River make the park ideal for anglers. There are seven picnic areas in the park and six picnic shelters that offer beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

Take a scenic trip into beautiful rural central Virginia.
