4 Acres RAW LAND on Holly Point Rd Tax Map 21 A 130 (Mathews County)

Google-PROPERTY MAP

Description: This gorgeous 4 Acre property is located on Holly Point Road, outside Newport News in Mathews County Virginia. It is a charming wooded and nearly level lot with road frontage. It is within walking distance from a tributary of Milford Haven and the Chesapeake Bay. The town of Mathews is only 5 minutes away and Newport News is only an hour away. The scenic beauty surrounding this county is amazing. Enjoy the beach life away from the hustle and bustle of tourists.

Mathews County is located in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, on the eastern tip of the Middle Peninsula. The second smallest county in Virginia, Mathews features more than 200 miles of shoreline! It is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay, Mobjack Bay and the Piankatank River. One of the highlights of Mathews County is the New Point Comfort Lighthouse, which marks the entrance to Mobjack Bay.

History buffs can find an abundance of colonial and Civil War sites to explore in Mathews. The Mathews Court House Square is a collection of 18-century and 19th-century buildings along with an active historical society. Its close proximitey to Virginia’s Historic Triange — Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown — offers additional incentive to visit this coastal community

The Continental Navy built many of its ships in Mathews during the American Revolution. Many historic homes erected in the 18th Century have been well-kept and are still in use, including Woodstock, Providence and Green Plains. Captain Sally Tompkins, the only female confederate officer, was a resident of Mathews County. The county is also known as the daffodil center of the Middle Peninsula and the annual fall festival of the courthouse square, Market Days, draws visitors from across Virginia.

Bethel Beach Natural Area Preserve is a sandy spit of low dunes and salt marsh habitat separating the eastern side of Winter Harbor in Mathews County from the Chesapeake Bay. Winds and water move sand creating an ever changing habitat on the narrow beach, apparently to the liking of the Northeastern Beach Tiger Beetle, an endangered and Federally protected insect that thrives in these sands. Scan the beach and offshore bay waters, tidal lagoons, salt marsh, shrubby swamp, and deeper channels during any season to discover over 185 species of birds, including 25 species of shorebirds, that have been sited here.

New Point Comfort Lighthouse, stands at the end of what was once the southernmost peninsula in Mathews County, now surrounded by water and hundreds of yards from the mainland, the lighthouse marks the entrance to Mobjack Bay. Authorized by Congress and commissioned by Thomas Jefferson in 1801, this 63-foot high sandstone tower with its spiraling stone steps to the lighthouse cage, was built in 1805 by Elzy Burroughs, the first keeper. The keeper’s dwelling once stood next to the lighthouse on a five-acre tract. The 200th anniversary of the first illumination was celebrated on January 17, 2005. It is the third oldest lighthouse still standing on the Chesapeake Bay, tenth oldest in the US. Today, it may be seen from the New Point Comfort Observation Walkway located at the southern end of Route 600. Virginia Highway Historical Marker N-89.

Whether you’re a country music fan or just want to spend an evening with down-home-hootin’-hollerin’-toe-tappin’-hand-clappin’ fun, you won’t want to miss Donk’s–Virginia’s Lil Ole Opry. Lively country music shows every other Saturday night, often featuring Mathews’ own country music star, Lynda Smith.
