36 Acres RAW LAND on Trail Rd Tax Map 27 A 9 (Scott County)

Google-PROPERTY MAP

Description: This is an unbelievable deal for 36 acres of mostly wooded, flat and rolling land for little over $500 an acre.  Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, this property is only nine minutes from the quaint town of Dungannon.  The Clinch River is just three miles away, and Bark Camp Lake is about 17 minutes from the property.  Many places of interest, such as Duffield, Gate City, Hiltons, Nickelsville, Snowflake, Weber City, High Knob & Natural Tunnel State Park are about a half hour from the property.

Scott County sits within the Appalachian Valley in the Heart of Appalachia region of Virginia.  It is located on the Tennessee state line.  The county is surrounded by an abundance of scenic natural beauty.  Five mountain ridges cut across the county.  Residents can enjoy a variety of recreational activities, such as hiking and picnicking in the Jefferson National Forest as well as Natural Tunnel State Park, one of the region’s leading attractions.  A chair lift gives visitors a unique aerial opportunity to view the splendor of the tunnel and surrounding scenery.

Scott County is one of the major sites along The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, and The Carter Family Fold in Hiltons is a popular place to be on Saturday nights for its bluegrass and country performers.  It also serves as a living memorial to the original Carter family – A.P., Sara and Maybelle – considered “The First Family of County Music.”

At 4,162 feet (close to .8 mile high), the nearby peak called High Knob is one of the highest points in mountainous southwest Virginia—or anywhere else in the state, for that matter.  From the third story of the stone-and-timber, octagonal observation tower atop High Knob, you can look into five states on a clear day.  High Knob is a profoundly beautiful place, surrounded by mountains growing progressively smaller in the distance in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, and North Carolina.  It’s part of the North End of Stone Mountain belonging to the Clinch Ranger District of the Jefferson National Forest.

In the area, you’ll find several recreation areas, hiking trails, lakes to fish and wide-ranging natural environments.  This includes the Natural Tunnel, which is more than 850 feet long and as high as a 10-story building, carved through a limestone ridge over thousands of years. William Jennings Bryan called it the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”

The Clinch River flows through some scenic gorges and has sweeping mountain views.  Some sections contain Class I to III rapids.  The river offers canoeing, kayaking and fishing for smallmouth and muskies.  The Nature Conservancy has designated the river as one of the “Last Great Places” in America because it is home to protected species of mussels.  The Clinch River is great for fishing.

With so much beauty, history and so much to see and do in Scott County, it is impossible to truly enjoy this magnificent county in just one trip.  Scott County is a playground for young and old alike, it is home to trophy trout and endless hunting opportunities and home to a variety of great events for the whole family.  From the world-renowned Carter Family Fold to the Clinch Mountain Music Festival, music-lovers will be inspired by Scott County.  The county is also rich in artists and artisans and offers plenty of festivals scattered throughout the county and throughout the year.
