Description: This scenic 2.99 Acre property is located on Lee Highway in Buchanan. The property is just outside Roanoke in Botetourt County Virginia. It is a beautiful mostly wooded and nearly level lot just across the street from Mill Creek. It offers double road frontage, with I-81 on one side and Lee Highway on the other. It would make an excellent building site or investment. You will be able to enjoy nearby lakes and the scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding this charming small town community.

Botetourt County was established in 1770 from Augusta County. The county is named for Norborne Berkeley, Baron de Botetourt, more commonly known as Lord Botetourt (1718–1770), who was a popular governor of the Virginia Colony from 1768 to 1770, when he died suddenly while in office.

Botetourt County is a part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the southern parts of the county have become increasingly suburban in recent decades. Much of the area’s former farmland and orchards have been developed into residential subdivisions and businesses.

Three incorporated towns are located in Botetourt County: Buchanan, Fincastle, and Troutville. Botetourt County is part of the Shenandoah Valley Region and includes portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, and surrounded by the Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountain ranges.

Placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, the Buchanan Theatre has been recognized as Botetourt County’s oldest standing theatre. Over the years the building has been remodeled several times. Notable exterior features include the Art Deco concrete details on the facade, the neon sign and freestanding ticket booth. Inside, one finds a pressed metal ceiling, knotty pine paneling and a curved wall around the concession area which features a 1950s era popcorn machine and candy counter. Reopened in 2002, the theatre has an all-new projection system, new screen, new heating/cooling, reupholstered seats and other modern amenities. It is operated solely by volunteers each Friday and Saturday featuring movies and live performances.

Nestled in the Great Valley of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Fincastle Vineyard & Winery produces wines using traditional Bordeaux small scale techniques. From the vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay come wines pressed gently and aged in oak. According to the Virginia Wine Guide “Fincastle’s 2001 reds are beautifully handcrafted blockbuster wines, dark, lush and intensely flavored.” The unique construction of the winery utilizes top-level in-ground primary fermentation storage, below which are three levels of barrel storage, providing for the downward flow of wine during racking. The vineyard can be seen from the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 100.

The Ashley Plantation Golf Course is the only 27-hole public access facility in the Roanoke Valley. Established in 1999, the golf course is a residential community featuring picturesque views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a beautiful Georgian-style clubhouse, conveniently located 5 minutes from Interstate 81 just north of downtown Roanoke in Daleville, Virginia.

The Blue Ridge Parkway winds its way along Botetourt County’s eastern boundary. Some 35 miles of the country’s longest National Park (470 miles long) provide scenic vistas, overlooks, picnicking and hiking trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Peaks of Otter offers lodging, camping, picnicking, a fabulous restaurant, visitor’s center, hiking, a restored 19th-century Appalachian homestead, and a climb or ride to Sharp Top (3,864 feet) for a spectacular view in all directions. Peaks of Otter is 9 miles east of Buchanan via Rt. 43 and the Parkway.
