2.67 Acres RAW LAND on Riverdale Dr Tax Map 117-16A (Southampton County)

Description: Land has always been a fantastic investment and one of Southampton’s greatest resources.  To make land ownership a possibility and a more lucrative opportunity, we are offering tremendous savings on well over two and a half acres of level wooded land.  Located in Southern Virginia, just minutes from the North Carolina Border is your prime opportunity.  This property is located just five minutes from Nottoway River and within an easy commute to the town of Newsoms and the City of Franklin.

The City of Franklin is located in the South Eastern, or Tidewater Section of Virginia, 40 miles west of Norfolk and nine miles north of the North Carolina border.  Within an hour’s drive to the east is Virginia Beach a famous seashore resort.  Within an hour’s drive to the northwest are the historical attraction of Richmond and Petersburg.  An hour’s drive to the south is the fishing and bathing resort area on the Outerbanks of North Carolina.  An hour’s drive to the north is the famous restored Colonial Williamsburg.

The City, located at the head of the navigable portion of the Blackwater River, lies in the highly agricultural Coastal Plain.  It has always been a center of trade and transportation for the surrounding countryside.  As with most communities, Franklin’s location has affected its history.  Since the City is adjacent to the Blackwater River, water transportation has played a large part in Franklin’s development.  Franklin has also become an important rail point between the City of Norfolk and the Western Roanoke Basin.

Southampton is a perfect mixture of history, arts & culture, and recreation with a convenient location.  During the 17th century, shortly after establishment of Jamestown, Virginia in 1607, English settlers explored and began settling the areas adjacent to Hampton Roads.  In 1634, the English colony of Virginia was divided into eight shires (or counties) with a total population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants.  Most of Southampton County was originally part of Warrosquyoake Shire.  The shires were soon to be called counties. Warrosquyoake Shire was renamed Isle of Wight County in 1637.

In 1749, the portion of Isle of Wight County west of the Blackwater River became Southampton County. Later, part of Nansemond County, which is now the Independent City of Suffolk, was added to Southampton County.  Southampton County may have been named for Southampton, a major city in England, or for Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, one of the founders of the Virginia Company and a supporter of colonization in North America.

For the fishing enthusiast, the many ponds and rivers of Southampton are home to bass, speckle, brim and catfish.  Some striper fishing is available in the Blackwater and Nottoway rivers.  Many hunt clubs are active in the fall and winter season. Southampton is exceptionally fine for hunting deer and duck.

Surrounding areas are exceptional for hunting deer, birds, and duck.  Canoeing and kayaking is a favorite sport for many.  Soak up the picturesque, rural setting and natural wildlife only this area of Virginia can offer.
